Who is the workshop intended for, is it appropriate for beginners?

The workshop is intended for artists who have a current practice, even if it is a bit rusty. Familiarity with general materials such as sketchbooks, mark making tools and paints is assumed. But visual artists who work in many different mediums are welcome including those how paint, sculpt, make prints, collage, photograph, or create mixed media. Even time based media artists could find this approach useful including filmmakers.

Could I bring family members?

There are lots of interesting things nearby for non-artists to do during the days when we are working. Visits to Peggy’s Cove, Halifax, Lunnenberg, and Wolfville are all good day trips. There are kayak rental and tours nearby at East Coast Outfitters.

There are also several golf courses nearby as well as.

Check in with the folks at Nova Scotia Tourism for a full listing and calendar of events.

Will you be able to accommodate my special diet needs?

We will make every effort to make sure there is tasty and nutritious food for your needs if you make those needs clear in advance of the workshop. You are also welcome to bring along any special foods you need.

What weather can we expect?

Being on the coast the weather here is a bit unpredictable but can be generally called temperate. The autumn season is generally the most spectacular season full of warm days and cool nights. The temperature range averages from 10 degrees C to 20 degrees C (50F to 70F) most days. As we will be working both inside and outdoors layered clothing is recommended. Don’t forget your hat and waterproof shoes/boots.

What equipment or materials do I need to bring?

Many of the materials that we will use will be supplied but a list of additional materials will be forwarded before the workshop. If you are travelling by air and would prefer to purchase your materials locally we would be happy to arrange to have those delivered to the studio.

What is the cancellation policy for the workshop?

We know that emergencies come up that can disrupt your plans at the last minute. If you need to cancel we would be happy to refund your workshop fee, except for a $25 admin fee, up to two weeks before the start of the workshop. Refunds after that point will only be available if we can fill the workshop spot.

Where can I stay while attending the workshop?

There are several lovely bed & breakfast places nearby and if you are interested in staying in Halifax that is only 30 minutes away. There are so many wonderful things to see and do in Nova Scotia that we encourage you to come a bit early or stay a bit later so that you have time to explore the area a bit.
